Dr. Seuss week will start next week and Carter is planning on joining in on the festivities.
Dr. Seuss week, also known as National Read Across America Day, is an event that is meant to celebrate reading and encourage students to do so all across the country.
The celebration was chosen to coincide with Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2nd due to his contribution to children’s literature.
Carter will be celebrating the occasion by having various activities through out the week and in the library. Monday will be “Thing One & Thing Two Day” wherein students are encouraged to wear red or blue, Tuesday will be “Fox in Socks Day” in which students are to wear crazy socks, Wednesday will be “The Lorax Day” whereby students may wear a silly mustache, Thursday will be “Green Eggs and Ham Day” where students are encouraged to wear green and eat food that they are not fond of, and finally Friday will be “Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss” and students are able to wear a hat reminiscent of the one the Cat in the Hat wears. According to Carter librarian, Elizabeth Cavazos, the library will be offering green screen photos in the library the entire week.
According to Claudia Gomez-Perez, Carter’s principal, the school is hoping to get the students to participate in the event, by hoping that the various flyers around the school will catch the attention of the students, as well as both Cavazos and the teachers getting the word out. Gomez-Perez also said that the primary reason that Carter will be celebrating the event is in order to get more students to read.
