Sol Garcia, born with a book in her hand, is the first Top Reader for this school year. During the summer, she read a total of 10 chapter books. Now that the school year has begun, she has to find a balance between schoolwork and reading for herself.

The highest word count Garcia has read in an academic year is 5 million words. She earned the Top District Reader award during her freshman and sophomore year.

The longest book Garcia has read is over a thousand pages with high-level vocabulary. She has been a member of book clubs and other school organizations.

One of her favorite books is “Falling Into Place”, because it shows that “No matter how dark life can get, you always find that people care about you, and it is inspiring”, as Garcia said.

Garcia said, “Reading is important because you learn the knowledge you can get in the book and [you can] find peace and comfort.”
