Today La Joya ISD School Board of Trustees approved a recommendation made by our Administration Team for La Joya ISD to delay the start of the 2020 – 2021 Academic School Year. This recommendation was made to ensure the safety of our students, parents and community given the significant number of active COVID-19 cases in our county. Our new First Day of School will now be September 8, 2020. This new start date will not only ensure the safety of our students, employees and community but will give our district the opportunity to ensure our online program is stronger and highly effective as we begin our 100% online Remote Learning Model on September 8th.

Hoy, la Mesa Directiva de La Joya ISD aprobó una recomendación hecha por nuestro Equipo de Administración para que La Joya ISD retrasara el inicio del año escolar académico 2020-2021. Esta recomendación se hizo para garantizar la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes, padres y comunidad dada la cantidad significativa de casos activos de COVID-19 en nuestro condado. Nuestro primer día de clases será ahora el 8 de septiembre del 2020. Esta nueva fecha de inicio no solo garantizará la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes, empleados y comunidad, sino que también le dará a nuestro distrito la oportunidad de garantizar que nuestro programa en línea sea más sólido y altamente efectivo al comienzo de nuestro modelo de aprendizaje 100% remoto el 8 de septiembre.

Ivan Silva serves as the advisor for RedGold News Student Publications, where he mentors student journalists and oversees all aspects of the publication. In addition to his work with RGN, Silva teaches Dual Enrollment courses in Speech Communication and Interpersonal Communication, helping students bridge the gap between high school and college-level academics.

He is also an adjunct instructor at South Texas College (STC), where he brings his expertise in communication studies into higher education classrooms. On campus, Silva is actively involved as the UIL Coordinator and UIL Journalism Coach, guiding students to success in academic competitions at the district, regional, and state levels.

Through his combined roles as Journalism Advisor, RGN Advisor, and educator, Silva is dedicated to fostering student voice, leadership, and excellence in communication, both in print and beyond.
