Karen Polanco, a senior at Jimmy Carter High School, is balancing her high school coursework while working toward an associate degree.

“I’m very happy and excited about going to South Texas College with some background in what college is really like,” Polanco said.

This spring, she will receive both her high school diploma and associate degree.

“I can’t believe I’m graduating this spring. I’m so ready to walk across the stage and get my diploma,” she said.

Polanco is involved in several school organizations. She is a member of the National Honor Society and serves as social chair for the senior class.

“I’ve always loved being involved in my school,” she said. “I love organizing events and planning them. I want everyone to have the most fun they can.”

As her senior year progresses, Polanco is grateful for the friendships she has built and enjoys the laid-back atmosphere.

“Senior year has helped me connect with more people. It’s a low-stress environment, and I’m enjoying it,” she said.
