Jimmy Carter’s Leo Club celebrated Earth Day by cleaning and planting trees at the City of La Joya Park.
The outing was a joint venture between La Joya Lions Club, La Joya ISD Leo Club, and Carter Leo Club; they worked from 8 to 1 p.m. to clean up trash and debris from a large portion of the park and curbs.
Club leader Yesenia Torres facilitated over a mile of walking and cleanup. While the focus was not only on cleaning but on rehabilitating the facility, the clubs planted over 10 trees and plants.
“They helped with the beautification of Coyote Drive, I’m proud of them,” said Mrs. Torres.
The group aims to continue with their volunteer work to better the environment.
Carter’s Leo Club is focused on serving the community and is planning Earth Day activities throughout the campus.
