Robert Morales is #5 on his varsity team for Juarez HS. He is dedicated to his school work and his after school activity, soccer. Robert is a 2023 senior and his plays for soccer are coming to an end, he has made an impact on his teammates and his friends here at Jimmy.

State Bound: Adilene Vasquez Places Second, and Ruby Hernandez Places Third in UIL Academics 4A Conference in Region 4 Competition
Two Jimmy Carter Early College High School students have advanced to compete at the UIL Academics state meet after achieving remarkable results in the recent Region 4 competition. Adilene Vasquez, a junior, placed second in the Feature Writing category, and Ruby Hernandez, a senior, placed third in the News Writing competition.
Vasquez demonstrated her exceptional writing skills, creativity, and ability to craft engaging stories. At the same time, Hernandez showcased her proficiency in analyzing and writing news articles that are informative, accurate, and captivating. Their outstanding performance in the competition is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and talent.
“These students gave up spring break and worked diligently during their free time to hone their craft and be top-level competitors,” Ivan Silva, journalism coach and campus coordinator, said.
Vasquez and Hernandez are now preparing to represent JCECHS at the UIL Academics state meet, where they will compete against the best students across the state. Their exceptional performance in the Region 4 competition has already earned them recognition and admiration from their peers and teachers. They are determined to make their school proud again in the state meet.
“The Carter journalism team is special; it has a style, voice, and culture of its own.” Luis Alaniz, journalism coach, said. “We started the year with the goal of competing at the state level and never lost focus.”
The UIL Academics state meet will occur on May 17 in Austin, where students across Texas compete in various academic categories. Vasquez and Hernandez will represent Jimmy Carter Early College High School in Feature Writing and News Writing, respectively, and are determined to bring home a win for their school.
“We are extremely proud of Adilene and Ruby for their remarkable achievements in the Region 4 competition,” said Claudia Gomez-Perez, principal. “Their success reflects their talent, dedication, and hard work, and we are confident they will excel at the state meet.”
