A Carter freshman received the Most Valuable Player award on Saturday, November 23rd at the South Texas College Sports Tournament held at Pecan Campus for his performance as part of the Red Wolves boys’ soccer team.

Robert Morales helped defeat other early colleges and brought home the MVP trophy.

Morales said he found out about the tournament because the principal had brought it to his attention and some of his senior friends had already asked him to join the team.

Being able to dribble a soccer ball is nothing new to this student. “The passion I have for this sport is inexplicable,” he said. Robert says he has been playing soccer since he was five years old; an appreciation for this sport passed down from his mother.

When asked what he thought about his team, Robert said he had faith and knew his team was going to do great. Wearing the number one on his jersey and playing the position of forward, Robert led his team to victory.

He says his mother is his true inspiration to succeed at what he does best.

“My mom strives me to be great and accomplish everything I put my mind to,” he said.

Robert also said his mother was really surprised and proud that he received such a high honor in his freshmen year.

“I feel really grateful to be awarded this, really proud of myself and my team, and extremely happy of this accomplishment overall,” Morales said.

The Red Wolf boys’ soccer team won one of the three trophies given to Carter. When asked about his participation in the tournament next year, Robert said he looks forward to attending and hopefully bringing home next year’s trophy as well.
