Jimmy Carter Early College Students Earn All-State Journalism Honors

Eight students from Jimmy Carter Early College High School were recognized this past summer as All-State Journalism Staff members by the University Interscholastic League (UIL).
Aylin Camero, Karyme Martinez, Luz Morado, Marianna Rodriguez, Robert Salinas, Angel Trevino, Adilene Vasquez, and Saray Vela were among the 231 students across Texas who were named to the All-State Journalism Staff for 2024.
All-State Journalists must meet the accumulation criteria of more than 50 points through local, regional, and state competitions in categories such as yearbook, newspaper, online news, and broadcast journalism throughout one year.
“I can’t begin to express how proud of the team I am. They worked exceptionally hard throughout the year, and this recognition captures how much they have grown as writers, journalists, and a team,” said Ivan Silva, their journalism co-coach.
Being named to the All-State Journalism Staff is a significant milestone in these students’ academic careers.
“Being an All-Stater is an incredible accomplishment. This shows that our students are among the elite regarding Texas high school journalists. Locally, our students represent 50% of the Journalism All-State students in the Rio Grande Valley,” said Luis Alaniz, journalism co-coach.
Throughout the year, the students showcase their skills across various journalism disciplines, contributing to their continued success in UIL competitions.
“Our students have made a name for themselves, and when we travel around the Valley, the region, and the state, more and more people recognize us. The journalism team and all our UIL students are showing the world what RedWolves can lead the pack,” said Silva.
The team will continue to represent Jimmy Carter Early College High School during the 2024-2025 school year, when they will have the opportunity to build on their accomplishments and inspire future generations of journalists.
