The National Honor Society provides its members with volunteering opportunities that allow them to give back to their community.
As the school year progresses, the National Honor Society has become more involved in activities, giving its members a chance to volunteer with different organizations. Its members come fact-to-face with many different situations and people. This is where students begin to become more involved and, ultimately, experience what it feels like to give back.
“I really enjoy spending my free time doing something that helps others,” Annett Gonzalez, a junior member, said.
When these students lend their time to the community, they open a door to meeting new people. When volunteering with others, members are often speaking to a variety of different people. NHS members are now open to networking with other organizations, and gain new experiences they can apply later.
“At school, I see the same people so having that diversity is really good.. It helps me improve my communication skills,” junior member, Valerie Segovia, said.
Volunteering has become a major part of what NHS’s members do in their free time. The majority of NHS members are juniors, and this is often their first time volunteering. Samantha Cabrera, a junior member, is beginning to appreciate the experiences that NHS’s volunteering opportunities offer.
“My favorite part about volunteering is the skills one gains and the experience,” Cabrera said.
The National Honor Society program allows its members to begin networking with others all the while giving back to their community. Gonzalez, Segovia, and Cabrera all made the note to apply what they’ve learned to business they have outside of the NHS. Not only does the NHS give these students a wide variety of open doors, they begin to confide in the community they have now.
