G-Metrix an opportunity

Students at Carter are wasting resources that have been provided by the district.

G-Metrix is a program that has been given to the Business Information Management (BIM) classes by the district of La Joya.

BIM teacher Yesenia Torres said, ” G-Metrix is an application where student practice skills they learn in Microsoft office.”

Microsoft Office is a gathering of software created by Microsoft that we use in our everyday lives.

Not all students are taking advantage of this free program that is provided by the district, but there are some who have.

Yesenia Torres was later questioned about whether Carter students are taking advantage of the program, she said, “Fifty percent of students truly take advantage of the free training available to them.”

CarterCares: Organizing Volunteers

Carter fosters the growth of academic organizations and community focused clubs. During the fall of 2019 CarterCares emerged as an organization whose sole aim is to provide opportunities for students to give back to the community by volunteering and earning hours. CarterCares is sponsored by Ivan Silva and Leslie Gonzalez.

“It is our goal for our students to not only have academic experiences, but also to take part in activities and functions that build their sense of service, duty, and strengthen their identity within our community. We service students from across our entire district and building a sense of unity is integral,” Silva said.

While working on character building students are also able to log hours to use in their resumes and college applications.

“We get our hours and we also get to interact with others,”  Freshman Dominique Brown said.
